Senior Infants made a terrific start to the new academic year. They engaged in fun and active learning activities.
Our Aistear theme this month was "The Home and Family". Each pod had their turn in the Home Corner where they busied themselves with cooking and baking, hoovering and ironing. Senior Infants also played with playdough, sand, and built houses and even bridges in the construction area.
We discussed the various rooms in our house and their uses. We learned the days of the week and worked on the months of the year. We learned what month our birthday fell on.
In literacy we were very busy working on our phonological awareness. We counted words in a sentence, practiced clapping rhythms and examined words closely in picture books to see if they rhymed.
Our Fairy-tale of the month was "The Gingerbread Man". We listened to the story and worked on sequencing and retelling the story. We designed our own Gingerbread Man.
We studied the author Julia Donaldson this month and we read Monkey Puzzle, The Gruffalo. We noticed that those books rhyme. We also examined "Zog" in great detail and learned new book terms: author, title, illustrator and end pages.
In Art we examined pattern and dot art. We read "The Dot" by Peter H Reynolds and made our mark in our painting. We designed name art using pattern. We hope you enjoy our Art.
